Perfect Party Balloons

These easy to use cutters have been designed to make eight different shaped balloons which create perfect decorations for themed cakes and cupcakes for birthday celebrations. The balloons can be made in a selection of colours and themes to suit your occasion, plus when used with wire can be used for topper sprays and side decorations.

*Balloons measure approximately 40mm - 90mm.

What are Tappits?

Tappits are a handy tool for quickly (and easily!) creating fun decorations to your cakes and cupcakes. We recommend you use mexican paste (a mixture of sugarpaste & tylo powder) when using these cutters as mexican paste holds its shape and hardens faster achieving the best results.

Each individual motif can be easily removed from the tappit simply by tapping the flexible strip on a board or side of a table. Set aside for a few minutes to harden, colour as you wish and use a little edible glue if attaching to a sugarpaste covered cake.

Instructions:
1 - Stack your iced cakes.

2 - Knead the mexican paste in chosen colour briefly and roll out until paper thin. If your paste is sticking to the mat rub a very small amount of trex/vegetable fat onto your mat.
Tip: using trex/vegetable fat instead of icing sugar/cornflour prevents your paste from drying out too quickly.

3 - Place the tappit over the paste, positioning so that the shape is fully covered. Firmly press down on the cutter and whilst still pressing down move the tappit back and forth across your mat to cut the shape.

3 - Gently holding the paste draw the cutter away from you. Flip the tappit over and remove any access paste with a knife.

4 - Turn the tappit back round and with the end furthest away from your shape press down firmly on the mat. With the end nearest your shape pull back and ping it against your mat. This should release your shape. Repeat process until you have cut out your desired amount of shapes then attach to the cake with a little edible glue. Use a black edible pen to add the balloon string detail.

5 - To create the balloon spray, roll out the mexican paste a little thicker and follow process above. Take the florist wire and carefully feed through the balloon shape till roughly half way. Once dry arrange all wired balloons in a flower pick and insert into the side of the cake.

6 - Make up some red sugarpaste and roll it into a thin sausage shape. Paint a little edible glue around the base of the cake and gently attach a red trim to each tier.
